Database Competence Centre

The Database Competence Centre addresses a wide range of database issues that play a crucial role in the operation of the database services at CERN including LHC experiments and the LHC computing Grid.

The project will focus on the following topics:

  • Data replication and data distribution based on Oracle Streams.

  • Improving scalability of Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC), implementing RAC for reliable database services.

  • Evaluating and implementing inovative monitoring with Oracle Enterprise Manager and providing feedback to the Oracle development team for future enhancements.

  • Evaluating and implementing innovative use of Oracle Data Guard automatic failover.

  • Regression testing new functionality and releases with upcoming Oracle database software, providing early feedback to Oracle.

  • Developing and testing virtualisation of Oracle database and RAC.

  • Evaluating and testing new enterprise hardware in the Oracle context.
