Communications Officer
Status: CERN fellow
Introduction
CERN openlab is a partnership between
CERN?s IT Department and leading IT companies, for test and
validation of new technologies. An important facet of the
CERN openlab activities is the dissemination of the results
of the partnership to the press, the scientific community
and the public, via articles, press releases and events
organized both at CERN and by the partners.
Functions
As the communications officer for CERN
openlab, you will be responsible for liaising between CERN?s
IT Department and the marketing and communications contacts
in the partner companies, in order to draft articles for
non-technical publications, reports and press releases.
You will coordinate events at CERN such
as press and partner client visits, as well as CERN
participation in partner events. In collaboration with the
CERN press office, you will handle press queries related to
CERN openlab, draft press releases related to openlab
activities, and assist in press and VIP visits to the IT
Department.
You will write, edit and organize the
publication and distribution of the openlab annual report.
In collaboration with the CERN openlab
manager at CERN, you will keep the content of the CERN
openlab website up to date, as well as producing flyers,
brochures and other handouts. You will assist where relevant
with the production of multimedia material developed by CERN
and the CERN openlab partners.
You will interact with other
communications activities at CERN as appropriate, especially
the communications activity of the EU-funded Enabling Grids
for E-Science, with which CERN openlab is associated, and
the EU-funded GridTalk project.
You will report to the CERN openlab
manager, and work closely with the CERN openlab management
team to continue to evolve the CERN openlab communications
strategy.
Qualification
required
A university degree.
Experience and
knowledge

Experience in corporate or
scientific communications, with particular emphasis on
a)
Editorial skills
b)
Info-design skills
c)
Organizational skills
These skills will be relevant for:
o
drafting and editing press
releases, articles and public reports
o
editing and maintaining
websites, developing flyers and brochure
o
managing major outreach and
communications events
o
communicating with the
press and general public
?
A scientific background or
experience in information technology.
?
Ability to work
independently while respecting approval processes.
?
Proven ability to work in
an international and multidisciplinary environment.
?
Excellent command of
English, especially in writing and editing, with a good
knowledge of French being an advantage.

Working knowledge of web
authoring and design tools
