Stephan Gillich, HPC
Director at Intel and a prominent figure
in joint Intel-CERN openlab
activities, delivered a keynote speech at the opening session of
the EGEE’08
conference, which takes place this week in Istanbul.
Mr. Gillich explained the role of
Intel as a provider of Grid components and scaling technologies,
domains which are explored by Intel and CERN in the CERN openlab.
In particular, he mentioned four current directions of
technology scaling: new material components, single core
enhancements, multi to many core evolution, and platform
enhancements.
Referring to the openlab, Mr. Gillich
said “The CERN openlab is
essential for building the IT infrastructure Intel contributes
to in a unique technology collaboration since 2003”.
