Grid Entrepreneurship Day
Wednesday 26th July 2006
09:00 - 17h00
IT Auditorium
(bldg. 31-3rd Floor)
A CERN openlab event organised by Sverre Jarp and François
Grey, CERN
Objective:
This event aims to provide an overview of what is involved
in spinning-off technology, with a special reference to the
context of computing Grids. Lectures by experienced
entrepreneurs introduce the key concepts and review the
industrial potential of EGEE in particular. Case studies
introduce two European start-ups already active in the Grid
and computing cluster area, as well as summarizing efforts
in several European regions to stimulate entrepreneurship.
This workshop is meant to stimulate students and researchers
involved or interested in Grid technology to consider the
entrepreneurial opportunities that this technology may
create in the coming years.
Background:
This workshop is organized as part of the lecture
programme for the CERN openlab student programme, which is
co-sponsored by CERN, HP, Intel and the EGEE (Enabling Grids
for E-Science) project. PPARC, the Particle Physics and
Astronomy Research Council of the UK, is a special sponsor
of this event. The event is open to all and free of charge.
External
Participation:
Participants from outside CERN should contact the organizers
(Francois.Grey@cern.ch) to arrange access to CERN for the
event.
