CERN and Huawei today announce that Huawei is to join CERN openlab as a contributing member, and will collaborate on investigating the applicability of new storage techniques and architectures to the processing of high energy physics data from the Large Hadron Collider experiments.
The new relationship between CERN openlab and Huawei will see Huawei’s cloud storage system installed at CERN, where it will be tested against the grueling requirements that come with storing and processing the 15 petabytes of physics data taken each year. Huawei’s cloud storage system provides a storage solution comprised of innovative storage hardware and software that allows scaling and provides high performance.
"CERN is already pushing the limits to carry out resource-intensive simulations and analysis. Our collaboration with Huawei will allow us to test exciting new approaches," said Bob Jones, head of CERN openlab. "We are looking forward to working with Huawei in this new phase of CERN openlab, where we expect that their novel architecture will let us extend our capabilities in preparation for the exascale data rates and volumes we expect in the future.”
Huawei Cloud Storage Chief Architect James Hughes stated "Establishing this link with CERN openlab gives us a fantastic opportunity to further develop our cloud storage products, and establish their worth in an extreme scientific research environment."
