
On 29th January, CERN openlab held
the first Major Review meeting of its third phase. Frédéric
Hemmer, newly appointed Head of the IT department at CERN,
presented his best wishes of success to this new phase of the
framework as well as his strong support.
Wolfgang von Rüden, Head of CERN openlab and former Head of
the IT Department at CERN, welcome the participants.
Sverre Jarp, CERN openlab CTO, gave an update of the on
going work as well as an overview of the new projects starting
with the third phase of the openlab. He also introduced a total
of eight technical presentations in the morning, which
covered the work done in openlab since last Major Review Meeting
in September as well as the new areas of work.

Andrzej Nowak
covered the recent results in the Platform Competence Centre
and related future topics to be investigated within the
openlab.

Eric Grancher,
Anton Topurov and Chris
Lambert covered the Oracle activities in the DES group.

Maria Girone and
Eva Dafonte
did the same for the DM group.

Max Böhm and
Daniel Rodrigues covered the work done
with EDS. Max delivered an update on Grid Monitoring Solutions
while Daniel spoke about MSG Messaging System for the Grid.

Xavier Gréhant gave an update of
Jose Dana Perez' work on Tycoon project and presented
his work on Resource Allocation.

Finally,
Ryszard Jurga described the progress made inside the CINBAD joint
project with HP ProCurve while
Milosz Hulboj closed the morning session by delivering
an appreciated presentation focusing on time series mining
(see slide above).
These presentations were followed by Q&A
sessions and opened the floor to various discussions. The
participants agreed to consider the Major Review Meeting as a
good tool to catalyse new ideas and to identify new potential
synergies and projects.
In the afternoon,
François Flückiger introduced
the executive session focusing on management and communications
aspects.
Mélissa Le Jeune presented the upcoming events and gave an
update on the second semester 2008's milestones and their impact
on CERN image and general public awareness.
